By Deborah Castellano Lubov Pope Leo XIV received the Governor General, Ms Mary Jeannie May Simon, in the Vatican on Thursday morning. The Governor General subsequently met with Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, accompanied by Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher. According to a statement released by the Holy See Press Office, the discussions at the Secretariat of State were cordial and appreciation was expressed for the good existing relations between the Holy See and Canada, with particular satisfaction expressed for the fruits of the path of mutual understanding begun by Pope Francis. The conversation, the statement also noted, moved on to topics of common interest at the regional and international levels, with particular attention paid to the commitment to peace among peoples.
